Highland Cow Wood Carvings

Each of our Highland Cow sculptures is a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Because we carve by hand from natural timber, no two “coos” are ever identical.

We focus on the features that make them famous: the impressive curved horns, the heavy brow, and of course, the thick, shaggy coat, which we recreate through deep, textured chainsaw strokes.

Chainsaw Carving of Highland Cow

Our wooden Highland Cows aren’t just beautiful; they are built for the British weather.

Locally Sourced Timber. We primarily use Cedar wood, known for its natural resistance to rot and fungal attack.

Expert Finish. Every carving is treated with high-quality wood preservatives and exterior varnish to ensure it stays looking its best for years.

Solid & Substantial. Carved from a single log, these sculptures have a satisfying weight to them, making them sturdy enough for gardens, patios, or woodland paths.

Wood Carvings of Highland Cows

Prices are based on the height and complexity of the carving. We are based near Longhope, Gloucestershire, and while we offer free delivery, local customers are always welcome to collect their new Highland friend in person!

Wood Sculptures of Highland Cow

As your Highland Cow is made from a natural log, it will breathe and change over time. Small cracks (shakes) may appear as the wood dries—this is a natural feature of solid wood carvings and adds to the rustic, authentic character of the piece. To keep your “coo” in top condition, we recommend placing it in a well-drained, shaded spot and reapplying a clear wood treatment annually.

Frequently asked questions

What type of wood is used for the Highland Cow sculptures?
All our Highland Cow wood carvings are crafted from high-quality, locally sourced Cedar. We choose Cedar because it is exceptionally stable and naturally resistant to fungal attack and rot, ensuring your garden sculpture remains a long-lasting feature of your outdoor space.
How is each Highland Cow made?
Every sculpture is a handmade chainsaw carving, created from a single solid block of wood. We don’t use glue, screws, or nails. Instead, we use a combination of professional chainsaws and various rotary files to achieve that iconic shaggy texture and detailed facial expression.
How much does a wood-carved Highland Cow cost?
Prices for our chainsaw carved cows are based on the height and complexity of the design. Because each piece is a unique work of art, prices vary, but you can see our current stock with prices listed above.
Do you have more examples of your work?
Certainly! Please visit our Photos or Videos pages to view a wide variety of our wooden chainsaw carvings, including Highland Cows, bears, and owls.
How do I look after my wood carving?
To ensure your carving remains in excellent condition, we provide detailed care instructions with every purchase. We recommend keeping the sculpture away from direct heat sources. If your sculpture develops a “split” (a natural occurrence in solid timber) that spoils your enjoyment within the first 12 months, you can return it to us, and we will repair it with timber fillets and retreat the product free of charge.
Where are you based and do you offer delivery?
We are based near Longhope, Gloucestershire. We offer FREE UK delivery on all orders placed through our website. If you are local, you are also more than welcome to collect your carving in person—just be aware that because they are carved from solid wood, they are very heavy!
How often do you add new carvings to the shop?
We generally create new pieces and upload them to our online store every couple of weeks. If our Highland Cows are currently sold out, please check back soon or contact us.
